Importer Exporter Code is unique ten digit number code issued by DGFT – Director General of Foreign Trade , Ministry of Commerce, Government of India to Indian Companies. to any Bonfire person/ company for carrying out import/export
IEC can be obtained from any of the Zonal and Regional offices of Director General of Foreign Trade depending on area/region where the individual/company is located.

Full From of IEC Code is : “Importer Exporter Code ”. To import or export in India, IEC Code is mandatory. No person or entity shall make any Import or Export without IEC Code Number.
Duplicate Copy of IEC Number
Where an IEC Number is lost or misplaced, the issuing authority may consider requests for grant of a duplicate copy of IEC number, if accompanied by an affidavit.
Surrender of IEC Number
If an IEC holder does not wish to operate the allotted IEC number, he may surrender the same by informing the issuing authority. On receipt of such intimation, the issuing authority shall immediately cancel the same and electronically transmit it to DGFT for onward transmission to the Customs and Regional Authorities.
Who Issues IEC?
The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) , Director General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India issues IEC to eligible Importers and Exporters.
Who are required to obtain IEC?
All Importers & Exporters (except as exempted) shall obtain Import Export Code, without which they are prohibited from Importing/Exporting goods.
What is the Validity of an IEC?
An IEC once issued will be valid till the life of the business entity, unless it is cancelled by the Issuing authority. An IEC issued shall be valid for all its branches/factories/units/divisions as mentioned in the Import Export Code License.
