Monthly Compliance News Roundup: Key Updates for Businesses
Compliance requirements can change throughout the year, and September 2026 brought several updates that businesses, startups and professionals should keep track of. From income-tax filing extensions to MCA, GST, trademark and securities-market developments, these changes may affect upcoming compliance planning.
Embark CorpServ helps businesses manage registrations and ongoing compliance requirements while keeping track of applicable regulatory processes.
1. Income Tax Return and Audit Report Deadlines Extended
The Income Tax Department announced extensions for certain taxpayers for AY 2026–27.
For the taxpayers covered by the announcement, the ITR filing deadline has been extended from 31 October 2026 to 21 November 2026, while the corresponding audit-report deadline has moved from 30 September 2026 to 21 October 2026. The extension was announced through Circular No. 07/2026 dated 28 September 2026.
Businesses should still verify whether the extension applies to their specific taxpayer category rather than assuming that every return has received the same extension.
Review your business compliance requirements with Embark CorpServ before relying on a changed deadline.
2. MCA Continues MCA V3 Compliance Transition
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs continues to operate company and LLP filings through the MCA V3 system. The MCA portal currently highlights V3-related resources, including annual filing forms, LLP filing guidance, DSC association information and SPICe+ and linked-filing FAQs.
MCA's current dashboard also reports 21,72,201 active companies and 5,22,657 active LLPs as of 31 August 2026, showing the scale of entities using the corporate compliance system.
Companies should keep their MCA user profiles, authorised signatories and DSC details updated before starting important filings.

3. GSTN Updates e-Invoice and E-Way Bill APIs
GSTN introduced changes affecting the e-Invoice API and e-Way Bill by IRN API, with production implementation scheduled from 1 August 2026. The advisory includes changes relating to closed e-Way Bills and API-based retrieval and actions.
Businesses using accounting or ERP software should ensure that their systems and integrations are aligned with the applicable GSTN specifications.
4. Trademark and IP Compliance Updates
Intellectual Property India continues to publish trademark and other IP-related notices. During September, the GI e-Filing Portal was officially launched on 15 September 2026, while the Trade Marks Journal continued to be published weekly.
Businesses should monitor trademark applications after filing, particularly for examination reports, opposition periods and other official communications.

5. SEBI Regulatory Updates
SEBI continued issuing regulatory updates during September. Its September circulars included changes relating to commodity-derivatives position limits, accredited-investor requirements for angel funds and compliance-related measures for FPIs investing only in government securities.
These changes are particularly relevant to regulated entities and market participants rather than every small business. Companies should identify which sector-specific regulations actually apply to them.
What Businesses Should Check This Month
Instead of waiting until a statutory deadline, businesses can use the monthly roundup as a compliance checklist:
Check upcoming MCA filing deadlines.
Review pending ROC and LLP filings.
Verify GST returns and e-invoice processes.
Check income-tax and audit-report deadlines applicable to your entity.
Review trademark applications and renewal dates.
Keep DSC and authorised-user details updated.
Check whether any sector-specific regulatory changes apply.
Discuss your current compliance requirements with Embark CorpServ to identify registrations, filings and ongoing obligations relevant to your business.
Stay Updated With Business Compliance
Compliance is an ongoing responsibility rather than a once-a-year activity. Regularly reviewing MCA, GST, Income Tax, trademark and sector-specific updates can help businesses identify upcoming actions before deadlines become urgent.
